Sundar Shadi Award gardens 2025

Our annual Sundar Shadi Award is given for front yard gardens that are visible from the street and delight passers-by! The award is in honor of Mr Shadi, whose beautiful “Persian carpet” gardens and home-made Nativity scene on his property on The Arlington were such a gift to the community every year.

The winners get a nifty sign to put in their yard, a small cash gift (to buy more plants!) and a year’s membership in the Garden Club. Anyone can nominate a garden! Send a note to us with the address of a garden in El Cerrito you think is wonderful. Our deadline for nominations each year is early April.
